Relationship between the intrapsychic aspect of differentiation of self and the frequency of psychosomatic complaints in emerging adulthood

Abstract:

Cílem práce je prozkoumání potenciálně silného vztahu mezi intrapsychickou složkou sebe-diferenciace definovanou Bowenem (1978) a tím, jak často se u člověka vyskytují psychosomatické stesky, jako například úzkost. Silný vztah mezi úzkostí a sebe-diferenciací byl potvrzen předchozími výzkumy. Cílová věková skupina je 18-29 let, jelikož se v tomto období vynořující se dospělosti vyskytují psychosomatické stesky ve vysoké míře. Výzkumný vzorek tvořilo 243 lidí, z toho 77 % tvořily ženy. Data byla sbírána pomocí dotazníku administrovaného v online prostředí. V rámci práce se potvrdil silný vztah mezi intrapsychickou složkou sebe-diferenciace a častostí výskytu psychosomatických stesků (r=0.49). Sebe-diferenciace sama o sobě vysvětluje 23.7 % rozptylu častostí výskytu psychosomatických stesků. Na predikci psychosomatických stesků má kromě úrovně sebe-diferenciace vliv i věk a pohlaví. 71 % mladých lidí uvádí, že zažívají minimálně jeden psychosomatický stesk několikrát do týdne.

Abstract:

The aim of this work is to investigate the potentially strong relationship between the intrapsychic aspect of differentiation of self, defined by Bowen (1978) and how often psychosomatic complaints, such as anxiety, occur in humans. The strong relationship between anxiety and differentiation of self has been confirmed by previous research. The target age group is 18-29 years old, as there is a high level of psychosomatic com-plaints during this period of emerging adulthood. The research sample consisted of 243 people, 77 % of whom were women. The data were collected using a self-report questionnaire administered in an online environment. A strong relationship between the intrapsychic component of differentiation of self and the frequency of psychosomatic complaints was confirmed (r = 0.49). Differentiation of self alone explains the 23.7 % variance in the occurrence of psychosomatic complaints. In addition to the level of differentiation of self, age and gender also have an effect on the prediction of psychosomatic complaints. 71% of young people report experiencing at least one psychosomatic complaint several times a week.
