Nonprofit Sector in the Third World Countries

Abstract:

Předmětem této diplomové práce je oblast fungování a specifických rysů neziskového sektoru v zemích třetího světa. V první části práce se autorka zaměřuje na společné rysy rozvojových zemí, které dává do souvislosti s potenciálními vlivy a faktory působícími na rozvoj neziskového sektoru. Dále se autorka zabývá definičním vymezením neziskového sektoru a výběrem nejvhodnější definice pro podmínky zemí třetího světa. Poslední bod teoretické části se zamýšlí nad otázkou, zda jsou převažující západní teorie neziskového sektoru schopny vysvětlit existenci a rozvoj sektoru i v zemích rozvojových. Druhou část práce autorka věnovala charakteristikám neziskového sektoru v Indii. Pro pochopení specifické podoby indického neziskového sektoru byly brány v potaz základní charakteristické rysy Indie, historické pozadí vývoje neziskového sektoru a právní rámec pro indické neziskové organizace. Následně byla pomocí metod deskripce a analýzy představena podoba neziskového sektoru v současnosti a přiblíženy některé klíčové aspekty (rozsah a povaha neziskových aktivit, pracovní síla, finanční zdroje atd.). V závěru práce se autorka zamýšlí nad socio-ekonomickým přínosem neziskového sektoru v Indii a jeho roli v indické společnosti.

Abstract:

The subject of this thesis is an area of functioning and specific features of the nonprofit sector in the third world countries. In the first part of the thesis, the author focuses on the common features of developing countries. These features are connected with potential factors that influence development of the nonprofit sector. Furthermore, the author deals with a delimitation of the nonprofit sector and with a selection of the most appropriate definition for the third world countries’ conditions. The last point of the theoretical part follows up the question, whether prevailing western theories of the nonprofit sector are able to clarify existence and development of the sector even in the developing countries. The second part of this thesis was devoted to characteristic features of the nonprofit sector in India. To understand the specific form of the Indian nonprofit sector, the basic features of India, historical background and legal framework for nonprofit organizations were taken into consideration. Afterwards, using description method and analysis, current form of the Indian nonprofit sector was introduced and some key aspects were described (the scope and nature of nonprofit activities, labour force, financial sources etc.). In the end of the thesis, the author reflects on socio-economic contribution of the nonprofit sector in India and its function in Indian society.
