From Monster to Warrior: The Changing Interpretation of the Character of Grendel's Mother in Beowulf
Abstract:
Predkladá práca pojednáva o interpretácii Grendelovej matky ako monštra vo vybraných prekladoch a súčasných filmových a literárnych adaptáciách a ukazuje, ako sa jej interpretácia mení vo svetle nových postupov a dôkazov prezentujúcich Grendelovu matku ako ženu bojovníčku a nie monštrum.
Abstract:
The aim of the present thesis is to discuss the interpretation of the character of Grendel’s mother as a monster in chosen translations of the epic and contemporary film and fiction adaptations, and to show how the interpretation changes in time and in the light of new approaches and evidence claiming that Grendel’s mother should be read as a female warrior rather than a monster.
