The Application of the Survival Analysis for the Analysis of Random Variables and their Relationships in Non-life Insurance

Abstract:

Analýza přežití je statistická metoda, pomocí které se zkoumá doba do nastání sledované události. V diplomové práci bude analýza přežití použita pro popis náhodné veličiny pocházející z oblasti neživotního pojištění. Nejprve bude popsána teorie analýzy přežití, tato teorie bude následně využita pro zkoumání náhodné veličiny, kterou bude doba likvidace pojistné události. Budou zjišťovány i vztahy této veličiny vůči jiným veličinám typickým pro neživotní pojištění. Práce se skládá ze tří kapitol. První kapitola se bude zabývat teorií o analýze přežití, ve které bude vysvětlen například neparametrický Kaplan-Meierův odhad, Log rank test shody dob přežití dvou či více skupin a semiparametrický Coxův model, a to jak model proporcionálních rizik, tak rozšířený Coxův model s časově závislými proměnnými. Dále bude stručně shrnuta základní teorie z oblasti neživotního pojištění nezbytná k pochopení praktické části. V praktické části poté proběhne aplikování analýzy přežití na reálná data, a tato analýza bude provedena v softwaru R.

Abstract:

The survival analysis is a statistical method by which the time until the monitored event occurs is examined. The survival analysis will be employed in this master thesis for the description of a random variable which origins from the non-life insurance sphere. First of all, the theory of the survival analysis will be described and consequently applied for the exploration of a random variable which is represented by the time of claim settlement. The relationship between the mentioned variable and other variables which are typical for non-life insurance will be also surveyed. The thesis consists of three parts. The first chapter introduces the theory of survival analysis in which, for instance, the nonparametric Kaplan-Meier estimator, the Log rank test of the survival time correspondence for two or more groups and the semiparametric Cox model will be explained, as well as the Cox proportional hazards model and the extended Cox model for time-dependent variables. Furthermore, the theory of non-life insurance, which is essential for the understanding of the practical part, will be briefly summarized. Finally, in the practical part, the survival analysis will be applied on real data, which will be performed in the R software.
