ANALYSIS OF GROSS SAVINGS OF HOUSEHOLDS AND THEIR DETERMINANTS IN THE CZECH REPUBLIC IN THE PERIOD 2005-2021

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce řeší problematiku tvorby hrubých úspor českých domácností v letech 2005-2021, včetně determinantů, které ovlivňují rozhodování domácností o alokaci svých finančních prostředků do jednotlivých aktiv. Dílčí analýza se zaměřuje na prokázání vlivů, které se mohly podílet na nadstandardním nárůstu úspor domácností roku 2020. Teoretická část se zaměřuje na specifikaci základních pojmů, druhů finančních aktiv a ekonomických teorií, které jsou nezbytné pro následující výzkum. Závěr této části se zaměřuje na charakteristiku základních faktorů ovlivňujících tvorbu úspor. Analytická část prezentuje výsledky statistické analýzy tvorby úspor, jmenuje příčiny a možné důsledky rozhodování domácností při spoření a představuje výstupy dotazníkového šetření, zaměřeného na finanční hospodaření domácností během pandemie Covid-19. Provedený výzkum prokazuje, že zvýšená tvorba úspor v důsledku pandemie Covid-19 byla vyvolána především uplatněnými vládními restrikcemi, a došlo tak k potvrzení hypotézy, že růst míry úspor nebyl vyvolán pouze motivem nejistoty. Rovněž je prokázána značná konzervativnost a riziková averze českých domácností, které spolu s dalšími specifikami trhu ovlivňují podobu portfolií finančních aktiv českých domácností. Dotazníkové šetření vykazuje vyšší stupeň finančního ohrožení jedinců s nižšími příjmy, pro něž může jakýkoli významnější negativní nákladový šok vyvolat existenční problémy. Cíl diplomové práce i stanovená hypotéza je prokázána.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis addresses the issue of gross savings of Czech households in the years 2005-2021, including determinants that affect households' decisions on the allocation of their funds to individual assets. The partial analysis focuses on demonstrating the effects that may have contributed to the above-standard increase in household savings in 2020. The theoretical part focuses on the specification of basic concepts, types of financial assets and economic theories that are necessary for subsequent research. The conclusion of this section focuses on the characteristics of the basic factors influencing the creation of savings. The analytical part presents the results of the statistical analysis of savings, names the causes and possible consequences of household decision-making in savings and presents the results of a questionnaire survey focused on the financial management of households during the Covid-19 pandemic. The research shows that the increased savings generated due to the Covid-19 pandemic was mainly caused by the applied government restrictions, and thus confirmed the hypothesis that the growth in the savings rate was not caused solely by the motive of uncertainty. There is also evidence of considerable conservatism and risk aversion of Czech households, which, together with other specifics of the market, affect the form of portfolios of financial assets of Czech households. The questionnaire survey shows a higher degree of financial threat to individuals with lower incomes, for whom any significant negative cost shock can cause existential problems. The aim of the diploma thesis and the established hypothesis is proved.
