Covidu-19 a society-influence and impact on students

Abstract:

Pandemie covidu-19 znamenala pro globální společnost tragickou skutečnost, která ovšem mnohdy při správném vyhodnocení může vést k lepší připravenosti pro případ podobných událostí. Práce se zabývá jedním z mnoha aspektů, které je třeba podrobit lepšímu zkoumání a reflexi - dopady covidu-19 na studenty. Hlavním cílem bakalářské práce je podat zjištění o nejčastějších dopadech pandemie na životy studentů. Výzkum jsem provedla formou online dotazníkového šetření a rozhovory mezi studenty, kteří v době pandemie covidu-19 studovali gymnázium nebo jinou střední školu. Výsledky ukázaly, že se studenti setkávali s mnohými změnami a překážkami, jako je nedostatek interakce se svými vrstevníky a pedagogy, nedostatek socializace nebo zvýšený strach. Studenti také vyjádřili své preference ohledně distančního vzdělávání a jeho výhod a nevýhod. Distanční výuka měla zároveň za následek zvýšenou potřebu digitálních technologií. Bohužel však ne všichni studenti měli přístup k potřebné technologii a internetovému připojení, což mezi studenty vytvářelo sociální nerovnost. Studující se shodují na tom, že pandemie přinesla školství nové možnosti a zkušenosti, současně však dokázala studenty rozdělit téměř na dvě shodné poloviny, pouze s nepatrným rozdílem je více studentů, kteří vnímají karanténu jako pozitivní zkušenost. Na základě výsledku výzkumu jsem v práci navrhla opatření, jak můžeme podpořit studenty během pandemie, jako je například poskytnutí podpory pro psychické zdraví studentů, zlepšení kvality online výuky a celkové investování do vybaveností škol digitálními technologiemi, které lze v případě potřeby studentům poskytnout. Práce je přínosem pro všechny, kteří se zajímají o distanční způsob vzdělávání během pandemie a chtějí lépe porozumět vlivu pandemie na studenty.

Abstract:

The covid-19 pandemic was a tragic reality for global society, but one that, if properly assessed, can often lead to better preparedness for similar events. This thesis addresses one of the many aspects that need to be better examined and reflected upon - the impact of covid-19 on students. The main aim of the thesis is to present findings on the most common impacts of the pandemic on the lives of students. I conducted my research through an online survey and interviews of students who were in high school or another secondary school at the time of the covid-19 pandemic. The results showed that students were experiencing many changes and barriers, such as lack of interaction with peers and teachers, lack of socialization, or increased fear. Students also expressed their preferences regarding distance education and its advantages and disadvantages. Distance learning has also resulted in an increased need for digital technology. Unfortunately, however, not all students had access to the necessary technology and online connections, which created social inequality among students. The learners agree that the pandemic brought new opportunities and experiences to education, but at the same time it managed to divide the students almost into two equal halves, with only a slight difference of more students perceiving the quarantine as a positive experience. Based on the result of the research, my thesis proposed measures on how we can support students during the pandemic, such as providing mental health support for students, improving the quality of online learning, and overall investing in equipping schools with digital technology that can be provided to students when needed. This work is beneficial for anyone interested in distance education during a pandemic and who wants to better understand the impact of a pandemic on students.
