Singles and their values in Czech Republic

Abstract:

Department of Sociology Singles in the Czech Republic and their values Author: Zuzana Žilinčíková Consultant: PhDr. Aleš Burjenek, Ph.D. Bachelor Thesis 89 590 signs This bachelor thesis is interested in singles phenomenon in the Czech Republic. In the recent years we are witnessing remarkable growth in this group – group of young people living without partner and children. Thesis reflects this phenomenon in two dimensions. Theoretic dimension focuses on the causes of growth of this group, theories that are written on this phenomenon and characteristics connected with singles. The second dimension consists of secondary analysis of European Values Study’s data. There are analyzed sociodemographic characteristics of singles as well as their declared values about family, children and marriage. The analysis in a great extent supports the theory about the growth of singles as well as theories about chosen sociodemographic specifics (domination of men in this category and tendency of singles to live in big towns). There are also proved different values from the people that are not single. First part of this work should serve as a review of existing knowledge about singles, the second part as a verification of the theory.

Katedra sociologie Singles v Českej republike a ich hodnoty vypracovala: Zuzana Žilinčíková, pod vedením: PhDr. Aleš Burjenek, Ph.D. Bakalárska práca 89 590 znakov Práca sa zaoberá fenoménom singles v Českej republike. V poslednom období dochádza k nárastu tejto skupiny, teda skupiny mladých ľudí žijúcich bez partnera a bez detí. Táto práca reflektuje tento fenomén v dvoch dimenziách. V dimenzii teoretickej sú rozoberané možné príčiny nárastu tejto skupiny, teórie venujúce sa tomuto fenoménu a charakteristiky spájané s touto skupinou. Druhá dimenzia pozostáva zo sekundárnej analýzy dát Európskeho výskumu hodnôt. Analýze sú podrobené sociodemografické charakteristiky tejto skupiny a hodnotové orientácie v otázkach rodiny, detí a manželstva. Analýza do veľkej miery podporuje teóriu, ktorá hovorí o náraste skupiny singles ako aj o určitých sociodemografických špecifikách (prevažné zastúpenie mužov a vyššia miera zastúpenia vo veľkomestách). Takisto potvrdila hodnotový odklon tejto skupiny od skupiny „nesingles“. Prvá časť tejto práce by mala slúžiť ako prehľad doterajších poznatkov o singles, druhá časť ako overenie tejto teórie.
