Suicidal Issues in the Context of Crisis Intervention by Phone

Abstract:

Tato kvalitativní studie se zabývá suicidální tematikou na linkách důvěry, s cílem podrobně zmapovat tuto oblast telefonické krizové intervence. Formou polostrukturovaných rozhovorů s pracovníky linek důvěry byly zjišťovány detaily práce se suicidálním klientem na lince důvěry. Důraz byl kladen na popsání metod zvládání zátěže, které pracovníci používají. Bylo zkoumáno, co pracovníkům při práci se sebevražedným klientem napomáhá a o co se mohou opřít. Výsledky ukazují, že pracovníci využívají nejčastěji sdílení těžkého hovoru s kolegou, popřípadě si tento hovor přinesou na supervizi nebo intervizi. Pracovníci se mohou spolehnout také na manuály pro práci se suicidálním klientem, na kolegy, na vedení linky a na zázemí a pohodlí pracoviště. Práce popisuje také názory a postoje pracovníků k sebevraždám a doprovázení ke smrti. Z výzkumu vyplynul aktuální problém pracovníků, kterým jsou opakovaně volající klienti, jež zneužívají téma sebevraždy k manipulaci s pracovníkem. Přestože se s akutně sebevražedným klientem pracovníci setkávají spíše méně často, suicidální myšlenky a fantazie jsou naopak běžné.

Abstract:

This qualitative study deals with the topic of suicide with regard to help lines and aims to map in detail the area of crisis intervention by phone. Through semi-structured interviews with the help line workers, details of working with a suicidal client on the help line were collected. Emphasis was placed on the coping mechanisms that they use. What helps employees when working with suicidal clients and what they can rely on were the examined topics. The results show that workers most often share the difficult conversation with a colleague, or they bring such a call to supervision or intervision. Workers can also rely on a manual for working with suicidal clients, on colleagues, on the management of help lines and on the facilities and comfort of their workplace. The work also describes the views and attitudes of workers to suicide and accompanying to death. The current problem of clients repeatedly calling the workers, abusing the issue of suicide to manipulate the workers, arose from the research. Although workers face an acutely suicidal client rather less often, suicidal thoughts and fantasies are on the other hand common.
