Influence of media on the concept of pension provision for economically active persons

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se zabývá možnou kauzalitou vlivu médií na oblast vědomostí a vlastního postoje ve věci zabezpečení starobních důchodů u ekonomicky aktivních občanů České republiky. V teoretické části této práce je čtenář uveden do základů problematiky hromadných sdělovacích prostředků neboli masmédií a hlavně pak jejich vliv na myšlení i chování osob. Dále na to v teoretické části navazuje téma důchodového zabezpečení sociálního systému České republiky, jeho vývoj, financování a současné možnosti. Empirická část této práce si dává za cíl zjistit u občanů České republiky, zdali a jak ovlivňuje konzumace masových médií jejich vědomosti a postoj k zabezpečení starobního důchodu. Výzkum byl realizován v únoru roku 2020 a jeho vzorek obsahoval 303 ekonomicky aktivních občanů různého vzdělání, bydliště a sociálního statusu z celé České republiky starších 18 let. V rámci výzkumné studie bylo provedeno jak dotazníkové šetření, tak i didaktický test pro přezkoumání úrovně znalostí z oblasti důchodového zabezpečení a i základů finanční gramotnosti, která s touto problematikou přímo souvisí. Výsledky této práce ukazují fakt, že větší konzumace médií má vliv na intenzivnější spotřební chování obyvatel a zároveň na jejich menší vzdělanost v problematice starobních důchodů.

Abstract:

The diploma thesis herewith examines the potential causation of the influence of media on the level of media literacy in Czech citizens, in the areas of knowledge and education of one´s old-age pension. The research has been realized in economically active citizens of the Czech Republic. The theoretical part of this work introduces the reader to the basics of the handled issue of media or mass media, and especially their influence on the people´s thinking, attitudes and behavior. Furthermore, the theory is followed by the topic of pension provision of the social system in the Czech Republic, its development, financing and options currently available on the market. The empirical part of the thesis aims to find out - among the citizens of the Czech Republic - whether, and how, the consumption of mass media affects their knowledge and approach to securing their own old-age pensions. The research took place in February 2020 and its sample consisted of 303 economically active citizens of various levels of education, place of residence and social status from all over the country, aiming at individuals of the age of 18 and older. As part of the research study, both a questionnaire survey and a didactic test were conducted to review the level of knowledge in the field of pensions, as well as the basics of financial literacy, which are directly related to the issue surveyed. The results of this thesis show the fact that greater media consumption has a direct impact on a more intensive consumer´s behavior of the population and at the same time on their lower achievements in old-age pensions education.
