Barriers to the mobility of foreign opera singers with a focus on the activities of the State Opera in Prague.

Abstract:

Diplomová práce analyzuje situaci mobility umělců na operním pěveckém trhu. Tento trh je velmi neuchopitelný, neboť neexistuje žádná kvalitní publikace, která by tento trh rámcově vymezila. Zaměřuje se tedy na podporu mobilitu v rámci České republiky a v rámci Evropské unie, přičemž by tato data měla být aplikována na Státní operu v Praze. Bohužel dle výzkumu existuje zatím pouze slabá zpětná vazba mezi programy na podporu mobilitu a jejich reálným využitím. Spolupráce Státní opery s operními pěvci je rozdělena do dvou kategorií, na export domácích umělců do zahraničí a na import zahraničních umělců do Státní opery v Praze. Tato spolupráce může probíhat prostřednictvím uměleckých agentur nebo přímým stykem s vybraným operním sólistou. V rámci těchto vztahů existuje mnoho nejasných otázek, které se musí řešit v dlouhodobém horizontu. Závěrem jsou shrnuty překážky, které byly objeveny, a jsou navrhnuta řešení, která by mohla situaci na trhu alespoň zlepšit a učinit jej více transparentním.

Abstract:

This thesis analyzes the situation of the mobility on opera singer market. This market is very elusive, because there is no quality publications, which generally define this market. It concentrates on supporting mobility within the Czech Republic and in the European Union, while these data should be applied to the State Opera. However, according to my research this application cannot be implemented in our system yet. There are a lot of European programs for supporting artists in their activities but they have almost no practical applications. Cooperation of the State Opera and opera singers is divided into two categories. One is the export of local artists abroad and the second on the import of foreign artists in the State Opera. This could be done by the cooperation with artist agencies or by contacting directly the chosen soloist. Within these relationships, there are many outstanding issues that must be resolved in the long term. The conclusion summarizes the obstacles that have been discovered and there is designed some solutions that could at least improve the situation and make it more transparent.
