Participation of Elderly at the University of the Third Age

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zabývá vzděláváním seniorů na univerzitách třetího věku. Nejprve zkoumá fenomén stáří tak, jak k němu přistupují sociální vědy, a věnuje se problematice celoživotního vzdělávání a významu univerzit třetího věku. Popisuje koncept "aktivizace" jako do jisté míry problematický. Práce se zajímá o skutečnosti, které vedou seniory k dalšímu vzdělávání a tomu, do jaké míry chápou senioři svoji aktivitu jako něco, co přispívá k jejich pozitivnímu sebehodnocení. Kvalitativní výzkum k této práci je založen na rozhovorech se seniory navštěvujícími kurzy i na zúčastněném pozorování přímo v rámci programů univerzity.

Abstract:

This bachelor's work focuses on the education of seniors at universities of the third age. It first examines the phenomenon of old age as it is approached by the social sciences and addresses the issue of lifelong learning and the importance of third age universities. It describes the concept of "activation" as to some extent problematic. The work is interested in facts that lead seniors to further education and to what extent seniors perceive their activity as something that contributes to their positive self-evaluation. Qualitative research for this work is based on interviews with seniors attending courses and on participant observation directly within the university programs.
