The French colonial empire, decolonization and consequences upon international relations

Abstract:

Tématem této diplomové práce je koloniální říše Francie, její rozpad a důsledky pro mezinárodní vztahy. Cílem práce je pomocí analýzy na základě vybraných událostí z francouzské koloniální říše analyzovat důsledky, jež z rozpadu impéria plynou zejména v kontextu mezinárodních vztahů, jakožto transformace mezinárodního systému, a také pro Francii. Zkoumána bude proměna aktéra v mezinárodních vztazích, tedy Francie, jak se změnila její role v mezinárodní politice v důsledku ztráty koloniální říše. Příčiny a zejména zmíněné důsledky rozpadu francouzského impéria v kontextu mezinárodních vztahů jsou tedy zásadní. Práce je rozdělena na čtyři části. První část se věnuje teoretickému východisku a kontextu mezinárodních vztahů, druhá část je zaměřena na kontext vývoje po druhé světové válce, část třetí cílí na objasnění problematiky dekolonizace. Zejména bude pozornost věnována válce v Indočíně a v Alžírsku, dekolonizaci Maroka, Tuniska a subsaharské Afriky. Poslední část zkoumá důsledky rozpadu francouzské koloniální říše. Nejprve bude analyzován francouzský vliv v bývalých koloniích, dále Mezinárodní organizace Frankofonie, důsledky pro mezinárodní vztahy a imigrace.

Abstract:

This master thesis deals with the French colonial empire, decolonization of this empire and consequences upon international relations. The aim of this master thesis is to analyze consequences of the decolonization process and the heritage of the French colonial empire upon international relations and France. The main aim of this thesis is to analyze the change of France as the actor in international relations. Historically, France was one of the key actors in the international politics. By the cold war and the decolonization process, this role has been changed. This master thesis is divided into four chapters. First of all, the first chapter is focused on theoretical problems and the context of international relations. The second chapter deals with the consequences of the Second World War. The third one is based on the decolonization process. Especially circumstances and consequences of these colonial wars in Indochina and Algeria are analyzed in details. Concerning the last chapter, the aim of this part is to analyze consequences of the decolonization process of The French colonial empire upon international relations and France. Firstly, the analysis is focused on the French influence in colonies, then on The International organization of La Francophonie and the consequences upon international relations and immigration
