Abstract:

Nowadays, neutron detectors are used for neutron imaging techniques, nuclear research, nuclear medicine applications, and safety issues, and their usage spans on various branches of science. The main problem in neutron detection is the discrimination of neutrons from the background gamma-rays. The existing neutron/gamma discrimination techniques are either fast with low discrimination quality or slow with high quality. We try to develop several highly qualified discrimination techniques which are computationally simple as well, for real-time field applications. Realizing the optimal technique in the hardware, we plan to develop a handheld device for simultaneous monitoring of neutrons and photons.
