Narrative Perspective in Medical Students

Abstract:

Cílem této práce bylo zkoumat různé projevy narativní perspektivy u studentů 2. ročníku všeobecného lékařství. Data měla podobu 50 volných výpovědí v reakci na fotografii nemocného člověka a byla zkoumána pomocí metody tematické analýzy s prvky konsenzuálního výzkumu. Na základě analýzy jsme identifikovali celkem 12 narativních témat: uvažování o životním příběhu postavy, jejích prožitcích, schopnosti zvládat životní situaci, vztahovém kontextu a zdravotním stavu, dále popis vzhledu a výrazu postavy, vyjádření vlastních prožitků, terapeutickou rozvahu, existenciální úvahu, uvažování o fungování zdravotnické instituce, připuštění více perspektiv a zlehčení tématu. Témata jsou zasazena do kontextu klinické praxe a vzdělávání v rámci interpretace v diskuzi.

Abstract:

The aim of this study was to examine different manifestations of narrative perspective among second-year medical students. Fifty students were asked to react to the photography of an ill person. Their responses were analysed by the combination of the thematic analysis and the consensual qualitative research. Results of the qualitative analysis showed 12 different narrative themes: reflection about person’s life story, reflection about person’s subjective experience, reflection about person’s coping, reflection about person’s relational context, reflection about person’s health conditions, description of person’s appearance, expression of one’s own emotions, therapeutic suggestions, existential reflection, reflection about health care system practices, awareness of other perspectives, downplaying the subject. Discussion of the study includes implications for education and clinical practice.
