Discrimination of national minorites in terms of their employability

Abstract:

Nezaměstnanost, spojená s diskriminací minoritní romské menšiny u nás, je hlavním předmětem zpracování této diplomové práce. Její obsah se skládá ze dvou částí, teoretické a praktické. V teoretické práci popisuji právní dokumenty, které zaručují ochranu národnostních menšin z pozice státu, dále se zabývám jejich historií, původem, zvyky a způsobem života. Praktická část je věnována kvalitativnímu výzkumu. Hlavním výzkumným cílem bylo popsat, jaké jsou příčiny nezaměstnanosti většiny příslušníků romské menšiny u nás, dále jsem se zajímala o to, co přímo souvisí s touto nepříznivou bilancí. Odpovědi na výzkumné otázky jsem získala pomocí rozhovorů, při kterých jsem od zaměstnavatelů zjišťovala, podle jakých kritérií vybírají a přijímají nové pracovníky do svých firem. Zajímaly mě jejich názory a zkušenosti se zaměstnáváním již zmiňované etnické menšiny .Ve druhé části jsem tento výzkum podpořila dotazníkovým šetřením, kde jsem se vybraného počtu respondentů pomocí dotazníku ověřovala, jaké jsou postoje a názory většinové majoritní společnosti na soužití s romskou menšinou. V rámci diplomové práce bylo vytvořeno zhodnocení celkové situace a navrženy vhodné strategie a možnosti, které by mohly přispět k postupnému zlepšování dosavadní situace.

Abstract:

The main aim of this diploma work is to find out to what extent the employment prospects of the Romany minority in the Czech Republic are influenced by an inherent discrimination against this group. It is divided into two parts: theoretical and practical. In the theoretical part I describe the laws that serve to protect ethnic minorities and I also deal with the history, origins, customs and lifestyle of the Romanies. The practical part is concerned with qualitative research. The research aimed to describe why the majority of Romanies are unemployed and what exactly is connected with this adverse situation. The answers to such questions were reached by means of interviews with employers from which I was able to ascertain the criteria used when selecting and taking on new workers. I was interested in their opinions and experience regarding this particular minority. In the second part I furthered my research by sending a selected group of respondents a questionnaire which was designed to discover the prevailing attitudes of the majority section of society to co-existence with the Romany minority. The diploma work also incorporates an evaluation of the overall situation and proposals for a strategy which could lead to an improvement in the current situation.
