Women and Their Relation to Traditional African Society in the Writings of Henri Lopes

Abstract:

The aim of this Diploma Thesis is to describe the position of women in the traditional african society in the work of Henri Lopes. The analysis of the theme in seven novels by the author is based mainly on the close study of the female protagonists. Apart from description of the specific situations the women find themselves in, the work concentrates on the comparison of the individual novels as well as on the development in the african society and its behaviour towards women. The writings of Lopes are an ideal material for this diachronic study as he published his first novel forty years ago.

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se zabývá pozicí ženy v tradiční africké společnosti v díle Henriho Lopese. Zkoumá tak zpracování tohoto tématu v sedmi románech, a to zejména prostřednictvím analýz hlavních ženských postav. Cílem je srovnání jednotlivých děl a hrdinek, stejně tak jako vysledování vývoje africké společnosti a jejího chování k ženám. Lopesovo dílo je pro tuto studii ideálním materiálem, jelikož autor publikoval svůj první román již před čtyřiceti lety.
