Political Ideology: Czech Liberalism after 1993

Abstract:

Práce pojednává o politické ideologii českého liberalismu po roce 1993. Jádrem textu je debata o privatizaci, v rámci níž hledáme specifické rysy devadesátých let. Na ideologické bázi dvou liberálních klíčových stran ODA resp. ODS ukazujeme ideologický kontext tranzice k demokracii, pluralitní společnosti a zejména přechodu k volnému trhu a soukromému vlastnictví. V teoretické rovině se dotýkáme pojmu, funkce, role ideologie a ideologické legitimizace procesu privatizace. Část textu je věnována myškenkám zahraničních liberálů, kteří významným způsobem ideově ovlivnili nastupující českou pravici (Smith, Hayek, Friedman aj.). V práci dokazujeme, že po roce 1993 můžeme hovořit o několika zásadních specifikách:anti-komunistickém sentimentu, o povaze vlastnických vztahů, nacionalismu či institucionálním respektive právním vakuu ve sledovaném období.

Abstract:

The present thesis introduces a political ideology Czech liberalism after 1993. The core of the text is a debate about privatization, we are looking for specific features in the Czech liberalism in the 1990's. The ideological base of two key liberal parties ODA and ODS shows the ideological context of transition to democracy, a pluralistic society and especially the transition to the free market and private property. At the theoretical level, we touch on the role, function of ideology and ideological legitimization of the process of privatization. We ask the question whether privatization was led by pragmatic or ideological way. Part of the text is dedicated to some thoughts of A. Smith, F. A Hayek, M. Friedman and other thinkers, which became important inspiration of the new Czech right. We show, that Czech liberalism after 1993 consisted of several essential specific features: anti-Communist sentiment, ownership relations, nationalism, and institutional and legal system vacuum in the period
