V této práci se zabývám teorií duality mužského hrdiny v pozdní viktoriánské literatuře. První tři kapitoly se soustředí na Stevensonův Podivný případ dr Jekylla a pana Hyda a Doylova Sherlocka Holmese. V poslední kapitole zkoumám, jak tyto dvě knihy ovlivnily způsob jakým byly vraždy Jacka Rozparovače vylíčeny v novinách. Abstract:
In the first three chapters of my thesis I explore the idea of man’s duality in late Victorian literature, especially Stevenson’s Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde and Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes. In the last chapter I examine the newspaper articles reporting the Whitechapel Murders and look for similarities between the fiction and these newspaper articles.
