Media Representation of the Katyn Massacre in the Post-November Era

Abstract:

Práce je prvním českým pokusem, jež se snaží zachytit kolektivní paměť na Katyňský masakr v českých polistopadových médiích, a to s odkazem na tradici zahraničního bádání. Práce zachycuje proměnlivé reprezentace události v dobovém tisku, populárních knihách a audiovizuálních zdrojích v podobě filmů a dokumentů. Analýza těchto mediálních forem se vztahuje k období od listopadových událostí, přes "dlouhá" devadesátá léta, do počátku druhé dekády tohoto století.

Abstract:

The work is the first Czech attempt to capture the collective memory of the Katyn massacre in the Czech post-Soviet media, with reference to the tradition of foreign research. The work captures the changing representations of the event in the contemporary press, popular books and audiovisual sources in the form of films and documentaries. The analysis of these media forms covers the period from the events of November, through the "long" 1990s, to the beginning of the second decade of this century.
