Determinants designating the level of player’s salary in Premier League

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce si dává za cíl zjistit pomocí ekonometrické analýzy, jaké determinanty určují výši ročních hráčských platů v anglické nejvyšší fotbalové soutěži Premier League a zároveň poukázat na skutečnost, jakou roli hrají zkušenosti, úspěchy a přednosti vybraných hráčů, ale i prostředí fotbalového klubu, ve kterém hrají. V rámci analýzy jsem se zaměřil na každou pozici individuálně (brankář, obránce, záložník, útočník), protože u každé pozice je důležitá jiná schopnost. V praktické části jsem za účelem sestavení modelů použil metodu nejmenších čtverců. Zkoumanou sezónou byla poslední ukončená sezóna 2018/2019. V modelech se projevily jako statisticky významné proměnné věk hráče, tržní hodnota týmu v librách a další individuální statistiky hráče, jako je střelecká úspěšnost a počet zákroků v případě brankáře. Diskriminace na základě barvy pleti hráče byla nalezena v případě brankářů a v případě obránců se projevil původ hráče.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis aims to specify by use of econometric analysis, which determinants designate the level of annual salaries in the English football league Premier League and point out the role of experience, achievements and advantages of selected players, but also the environment of the football club, in which they play. In the analysis I focused on each position individually (goalkeeper, defender, midfielder, forward), because for each position is important different ability. In practical part I used the ordinary least squares method to build up the models. The examined season was the last finished season 2018/2019. The models showed statistically significant variables in the age of the player, market value of squad in pounds and other individual player statistics such as shooting accuracy and number of saves for goalkeepers. Discrimination based on player's skin colour was found in case of goalkeepers and in case of defenders the player's origin proved to be statistically significant.
