Contemporary Critical Reception of W. Blake's Songs of Innocence and Songs of Experience

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis focuses on two well-known poetic collections by William Blake Songs of Innocence and Songs of Experience. Its main goal is to trace how is the author seen in the eyes of critical literature, mainly the second half of the 20th and the beginning of the 21st century. This investigative work is familiar with these two collections of poems as well as with the critical reception of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century. Only then can be Blake's work seen from different approaches and views. At the end, which will be a synthesis of many different opinions, views and critical receptions, the author will highlight new and subjective views on Blake's poetic collections. Alternatively, the focus will be on earlier critical receptions, which are insurmountable, or that previous critical works are still taken into consideration by the contemporary ones. The author of this bachelor thesis is aware that this is a very large area for this kind of work, then consequently it is possible to shorten the field (i.e. focus on the view of younger generation of literary critics).

Abstract:

Bakalářské práce Současná kritická recepce Blakeových Písní nevinnosti a zkušenosti se zaměří na dvě velmi známé sbírky Williama Blakea a její autor se pokusí se vysledovat, jak jsou vnímány současnou literární kritikou, popř. literární kritikou 2. poloviny 20. století a zač. 21. století. Tato převážně investigativní práce je předpokladá, že diplomant dobře tyto sbírky zná, stejně tak jako kritické recepce tohoto díla z 19. a poč. 20. století. Jedině tak bude moci vybírat z rozsáhlé kritické bibliografie a sledovat různé pohledy na tuto část Blakeova díla. V závěru své práce, která bude syntézou různých názorů, pohledů a kritických hodnocení, vyzvedne zejména nové a podnětné pohledy na tyto Blakeovy sbírky. Případně zdůrazní ty dřívější kritické práce, které jsou nepřekonatelné, anebo práce, o něž se současná literární kritika stále opírá. Jelikož jde o poměrně rozsáhlé kritické studium, je možné, aby diplomant zvolil i užší pohled, popř. upřednostnil jinou variantu svého pohledu na tuto problematiku (může např. vyzvednout pohled mladší generace literárních kritiků na tyto Blakeovy básně).
