Possibilities of Application of Group Art Therapy within the Treatment of Inpatients in PL Brno

Abstract:

Tato práce prezentuje výzkumný projekt zabývající se možnostmi využití skupinové arteterapie s pacienty psychiatrické léčebny a jeho výsledky. Projekt se uskutečnil na čtyřech odděleních Psychiatrické léčebny Brno a výzkumný soubor tvořilo 17 pacientů, 4 psycholožky a 2 staniční sestry. Pacienti absolvovali několik sezení, na nichž jsem s nimi pracovala formou skupinové arteterapie. Naším cílem bylo zjistit, co vnímají pacienti a personál na této formě terapie jako pozititvní, co jako negativní, jak hodnotí osobní přínos a zda se podařilo naplnit některé cíle vytyčené na počátku výzkumu. Tyto cíle se týkaly různých oblastí, v nichž mohli pacienti dosáhnout zlepšení. Pacienti i zdravotnický personál hodnotili arteterapii pomocí dotazníku vytvořeného speciálně pro tento výzkum. Z jejich odpovědí jsme pomocí obsahové analýzy mohli zjistit, že jako největší přínos vnímají pacienti odreagování a nový náhled na sebe, jako pozitivní hodnotí zejména možnost sdílet s ostatními své pocity a emoce a jako negativní narušování skupinových sezení ostatními pacienty. Kromě výzkumného významu měl tento projekt za cíl také nabídnout pacientům možnost nového způsobu psychoterapeutické práce a poskytnout jim náplň času tráveného v léčebně. Výzkum, který je v této studii prezentován je kvalitativní a probíhal v prostředí psychiatrické léčebny.

Abstract:

This thesis presents a research project exploring possibilities of application of group art therapy with inpatients and its results. This project ran through four departments of Psychiatric sanatorium Brno. Research sample contained 17 inpatients, 4 psychologists and 2 department´s nurses. The inpatients undertook a number of art therapy sessions. During them I practiced various art therapy techniques, themes or activities with them. Object of this research was to explore how the inpatients react to this form of therapy, what they perceive as positive, what they perceive as negative and what they perceive as a personal benefit of group art therapy. We wanted to know as well if some goals of art therapy (set in the beginning of research) were gained. These goals involved some areas of improvement in social skills, communication, self-perception etc. The inpatients and the medical staff evaluated the art therapy by questionnaires developed especially for this research. Their answers were analyzed by a contentual analysis and we found out that the inpatients perceive an abreaction as the main benefit and a new point of view on themselves. They perceived a possibility to share their feelings and emotions with others as positive and disturbing during the sessions as negative. Beside the research itself, this project also offered the inpatients a possibility to know a new therapeutic method with positive impact on their recovery during their stay in sanatorium. This research is qualitative and it took place in the environment of psychiatric sanatorium.
