Partnership trajectories of single mothers

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se věnuje osamělým matkám, které v době porodu prvního dítěte nežily v koresidenčním partnerství. Jejím východiskem se stává narůstání mimomanželské plodnosti, na které se podílejí nejen kohabitující páry, ale také osamělé ženy bez partnera, jejichž počty stále rostou. V práci je nastíněn vývoj mimomanželské plodnosti a je upozorněno na plodnost mimopartnerskou. Jsou identifikovány změny v české společnosti spojené s porevolučním vývojem po roce 1989 a popsány postoje české populace, které se týkají alternativních rodinných forem. Dále práce upozorňuje na rozdíl mezi dobrovolně a nedobrovolně svobodnými matkami a ve své teoretické části srovnává situace osamělých matek, kohabitujících párů a párů sezdaných s ohledem na vývoj dítěte, které se v rodině nachází. V práci dochází díky datům z Generations and Gender Survey (2005) ke sledování přechodu z osamělého mateřství do koresidenčního partnerství do dvaceti let od narození dítěte mezi třemi kohortami prvorodiček (<1970, 1970-1989 a >1989) s ohledem na vzdělání, věk při porodu a dobu uplynulou od narození dítěte. Využívána je metoda analýzy přežití, dále pak Kaplan-Meierovy odhady a logistická regrese. Výsledky naznačují, že ženy z pozdějších kohort prvorodiček (1970-1989 a >1989) vstupují častěji do koresidenčního partnerství, nejvyšší šance mají mladší prvorodičky, vzdělání nemá na sledovanou tranzici (bez zohlednění interakcí) vliv a s uplynulými roky od porodu se šance žen na vstup do koresidenčního partnerství zvyšuje.

Abstract:

Diploma thesis is focused on lonely mothers who did not live in the coresidential partnership during the birth of their first child. The starting point of the thesis is increased fertility outside of marriage which involves not only cohabiting couples, but also increasing number of women living without partner. The evolution of fertility outside of marriage is outlined in the thesis and an attention is paid on the fertility outside of partnership. The changes in the Czech society which are connected with the development after the revolution in 1989 are identified and the attitudes to alternative family forms are described. Then, the thesis points out the differences between voluntarily and unvoluntarily unmarried mothers. The theoretical part compares the situation of lonely mothers, cohabiting couples and married couples with the respect to the evolution of the child, who lives in the family. The thesis monitores the transition from lonely motherhood to coresidential partnership up to twenty years from the birth of the first child in the three cohorts of primiparas (<1970, 1970-1989 and >1989). It also takes into consideration the education, the age at childbirth and the time from the birth of the child. The source data come from the Generations and Gender Survey (2005). The method of survival analysis, the Kaplan-Meier estimates and the logistic regression are used. The results show that women from later cohorts of primiparas (1970-1989 and >1989) often enter to the coresidential partnership, young primiparas have the highest chance to enter to the coresidential partnership, education does not influence the transition (in model withouth interaction) and the more years gone from the birth of the first child, the higher chance to enter to the coresidential partnership the women have.
