A Comparison of Verbal Tenses in Spanish and French

Abstract:

The thesis compares the system of verbal tenses in Spanish and French. It focuses on the development of individual tenses from Vulgar Latin to the present and it aims to point out the factors which lead to the individual differences between the systems of verbal tenses of the respective languages. The main focus of the present work is on the comparison of the present state (of these languages). When it was possible, there was one Spanish tense put in opposition to its corresponding French tense. The use of both tenses was demonstrated thanks to concrete examples taken from the newspapers El Mundo, El País, Le Monde and Le Figaro. In addition to the usage of individual tenses, the thesis focuses on the sequence of tenses in both languages. The final part of the work, which is based on the corpus of newspapers, is devoted to the question of respecting and violation of grammatical norms in using the verbal tenses in practice.

Abstract:

Diplomová práce srovnává systém slovesných časů ve španělštině a ve francouzštině. Zabývá se nejdříve vývojem jednotlivých časů z lidové latiny po současnost a snaží se tímto způsobem poukázat na faktory, které v průběhu vývoje vedly k jednotlivým odlišnostem mezi systémy slovesných časů obou jazyků. Hlavní pozornost je pak soustředěna na srovnání současného stavu. Tam, kde je to možné, stojí v opozici vždy jeden čas španělský a jemu odpovídající čas francouzský, přičemž použití obou časů je demonstrováno na konkrétních příkladech z internetových deníků El Mundo, El País, Le Monde a Le Figaro. Kromě užití jednotlivých časů se práce zabývá také sousledností časovou a jejím srovnáním v obou jazycích. Na základě korpusu novinových článků je závěr práce věnován otázce dodržování a porušování gramatických norem při používání slovesných časů v praxi.
