Hip dysplasia in German Shepherd breeding

Abstract:

Ve své bakalářské práci jsem poukázala na dědičné onemocnění dysplazie kyčelního kloubu (DKK) u německých ovčáků. Rozvedla jsem problematiku, a to především v oblasti genetiky a vlivu vnějšího prostředí. Také jsem se následně zaměřila na kosterní a svalovou soustavu psa. U DKK byla popsána diagnostika a léčba tohoto onemocnění a následná prevence. Nadále jsem představila plemeno německý ovčák se všemi jeho charakteristickými rysy. Poslední částí mé bakalářské práce je analýza dat z Českého klubu německých ovčáků. Data byla získána z databáze vyšetřených jedinců na DKK. Jedná se o hodnocení celkově zhotovených RTG snímků v letech 2008–2011 a v letech 2016-2018 a jejich vzájemné srovnání. Navazuje pak samotné zhodnocení z let 2015, 2017, 2018, 2019. U tohoto hodnocení bylo bráno v potaz zhodnocení všech negativních a pozitivních jedinců a také vliv pohlaví na četnost výskytu DKK. Z celkového souhrnu dat bylo zjištěno velké množství pozitivně diagnostikovaných případů DKK. Závěrem lze konstatovat, že u plemene německého ovčáka je onemocnění zásadní pro zařazení do chovu. Je proto velice důležitá prevence a po vypuknutí onemocnění konvenční či chirurgická léčba.

Abstract:

In my Bachelor’s thesis, I would like to point out a genetically inherited disease called Hip dysplasia in the German Shepherd dog breed. It expands on the problematics, especially in the field of genetics and the influence of the environment. I also focused on the skeletal and muscular system in dogs. This thesis describes the diagnosis of Hip dysplasia, treatment of this disease and it’s prevention. I also introduced the German Shepherd breed with all its characteristics. In the last part of my Bachelor’s thesis is an analysis of the data from the Czech Club of German Shepherds. The data was collected from the database of examined individuals for Hip dysplasia. It consists of an evaluation of X-Ray pictures, taken in years 2008–2011 and 2016 – 2018 and their mutual comparison. What follows up is an evaluation of pictures from the years 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2019. In this evaluation, all negative and positive individuals were taken into account as well as the influence of the sex of the dog on the incidence of Hip dysplasia. In the final summary of the data, there was a large number of positively diagnosed cases with Hip dysplasia. In the end, it is possible to say that in the German Shepherd dog, this disease is crucial for inclusion in the breeding program. That is why prevention is very important as well as conventional of surgical treatment after a diagnosis of the disease.
