Intumescent coating for fire protection of steel constructions

Abstract:

Tato práce se zabývá přípravou a testováním protipožárních zpěňovacích povlaků na ocelové konstrukce. Organické intumescentní nátěry jsou tenkovrstvé zpěňovatelné nátěry, které jsou založeny na kyselém katalyzátoru (např. polyfosforečnan amonný), organických látkách s vysokým obsahem uhlíku (např. pentaerytritol) a nadouvadle (např. melamin) a to jak ve vodou ředitelných, tak i rozpouštědlových pojivech. V práci byl zkoumán poměr třech základních složek zpěňovatelných nátěrů (donor uhlíku, kyselý katalyzátor a nadouvadlo) v různém typu pojiva, kterými byla vodou ředitelná epoxidová disperze, vodou ředitelná alkydové disperze a rozpouštědlová epoxyesterová pryskyřice. Byl zjišťován vliv přídavku fosforečnanu zinečnatého na kvalitu ochranné vrstvy a na ochranné působení povlaku během jeho životnosti. U protipožárních zpěňovatelných hmot byly testovány fyzikálně mechanické vlastnosti (ohyb, úder, hloubení, přilnavost, tvrdost) a antikorozní vlastnosti v solné a kondenzační komoře. Navíc byly provedeny testy ohnivzdornosti, byla hodnocena kvalita a síla zpěněné vrstvy. Pro analýzu připravených nátěrových hmot a vzniklých uhlíkatých vrstev byla použita infračervená spektroskopie a také byly použity metody termické analýzy TG a DSC.

Abstract:

This thesis discuses the preparation and testing of fire-retardant intumescent coatings for steel structures. Organic intumescent coatings are thin-layer foaming coatings based on an acidic catalyst (e.g., ammonium polyphosphate), organic substances with high carbon content (e.g., pentaerythritol), and a blowing agent (e.g., melamine) in both water-based and solvent-based binders. The research examined the ratio of three basic components of foaming coatings (carbon donor, acidic catalyst, and blowing agent) in different types of binders, including water-based epoxy dispersion, water-based alkyd dispersion, and solvent-based epoxy ester resin. The influence of adding zinc phosphate on the quality of the protective layer and the protective properties of the coating during its lifespan was investigated. For fire-retardant intumescent coatings, physical-mechanical properties (flexibility, impact resistance, adhesion, hardness) and anticorrosive properties in salt spray and humidity chambers were tested. Additionally, fire resistance tests were conducted, and the quality and strength of the foamed layer were evaluated. Infrared spectroscopy was used for the analysis of prepared coatings and carbon layers, along with methods of thermal analysis TG and DSC.
