Perception of Poverty and Income Inadequacy from the Point of View of the Long-term Unemployed

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce je zaměřena na problematiku chudoby a její percepci ze strany dlouhodobě nezaměstnaných. V teoretické části se pojednává o sociálních nerovnostech, chudobě a jejích konceptech. Popisují se zde nástroje měření chudoby, příčiny jejího vzniku a jsou zmiňovány možnosti řešení. Závěr je věnován těsnosti vztahu chudoby a dlouhodobé nezaměstnanosti. V praktické části byly zodpovězeny otázky, jak dlouhodobě nezaměstnaní vnímají důsledky chudoby, kde spatřují zdroje jejího původu, proč si myslí, že jsou někteří lidé chudí a jaká je jejich motivace a ochota ke zlepšení své životní situace. Získaná data z dotazníkového šetření byla zpracována pomocí programu pro řešení statistických úloh SPSS for Windows. Zjištěné poznatky jsou přehledně prezentovány v tabulkách s komentářem a následně diskutovány.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis concentrates on the issue of poverty and its perception from the viewpoint of the long-term unemployed. In the theoretical part, social inequality, poverty and its concepts are dealt with. Within this part, tools of poverty measurement and reasons of its origin are described as well as possible solutions are suggested. The conclusion is dedicated to the close relation between poverty and long-term unemployment. In the practical part, the following questions are answered: How the long-term unemployed perceive the consequences of their poverty; where in their opinion the sources of their poverty are; why they think some people are poor, and, finally, what their motivation and willingness to improve their situation is. The data collected in questionnaires were processed by means of the SPSS statistics programme for Windows. The resulting findings are presented digestedly in charts to which descriptions are added and followed by a discussion of them.
