Ethics of big data in healthcare

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce pojednává o ochraně citlivých dat ve zdravotnictví, identifikaci etických problémů v souvislosti s velkými daty a jak legislativa a etické kodexy tuto problematiku řeší. S využíváním novějších technologií a rostoucí potřebou velkého množství dat se toto téma stává čím dál aktuálnější, zejména pokud jde o oblast zdravotnictví, která je v běžném kontaktu s citlivými daty. Cílem práce je zjistit postoj k soukromí zdravotních dat a povědomí o shromažďovaných datech u zařízeních využívající velká data. V teoretické části je proto vysvětlení významu informační etiky, soukromí a zákonů zabývající se zdravotními daty a zhodnocení legislativy z pohledu ochrany osobních údajů. Součástí je i bližší pohled na využití velkých dat ve zdravotnictví, vymezení výhod a nevýhod velkých dat pro jednotlivce a firmy a identifikace rizik velkých dat z etického hlediska. V praktické části je vypracováno dotazníkové šetření a zároveň zrealizovaný rozhovor s odborníkem z oblasti zdravotnictví. Dotazníkové šetření je zaměřeno na povědomí o shromažďovaných datech, privacy calculus a snaží se zjistit, pro jaké organizace či účel by byli lidé ochotní dobrovolně poskytnout svoje data. Podle zjištěných informací a zpracovaných výsledků bylo zjištěno, že lidé jsou ochotní věnovat data pro detekci nemocí a klinický výzkum a nejvíce věří vládě a akademickým institucím, co se týče etického zacházení s daty.

Abstract:

The bachelor thesis focuses on the protection of sensitive data in healthcare, the identification of ethical issues in connection with big data, and how legislation and codes of ethics address this issue. With the use of newer technologies and the growing need for large amounts of data, this topic is becoming more and more topical, especially in healthcare, which is in regular contact with sensitive data. The work aims to discover the attitude to health data privacy and awareness of the collected data in big data devices. The theoretical part defines the concepts of information ethics, privacy, and laws related to health data. It also includes a closer look at the use of big data in healthcare, identifying the advantages and the disadvantages of big data for individuals and companies, and identifying big data risks from an ethical point of view. In the practical part, a questionnaire survey and an interview with an expert in the healthcare field are carried out. The questionnaire survey focuses on awareness of the data collected and privacy calculus. It also seeks to determine for what organization or purpose people would be willing to provide their data voluntarily. Based on the information obtained and the results processed, the research found that people are willing to share their data for disease detection and clinical research purposes and trust the government and academic institutions in ethical data handling.
