Information Behavior of Fact-Checkers

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá problematikou informačního chování fact-checkerů. V teoretické části práce jsou definovány pojmy, jako je informace a dezinformace, které jsou pro fact-checking stěžejní. V dalších kapitolách je představen zrod a vývoj fact-checkingu a charakterizováno informační chování a s ním spojené pojmy. Výzkumnou část tvoří kvalitativní výzkum, v němž čeští fact-checkeři prostřednictvím polostrukturovaných rozhovorů a map informačních horizontů poskytují vhled do zákulisí své činnosti. Výzkum tak v českém prostředí představuje unikátní sondu do problematiky fact-checkerské práce s informačními zdroji.

Abstract:

The diploma thesis deals with the issue of the information behaviour of fact-checkers. In the theoretical part of the thesis, terms such as information and misinformation, which are fundamental in fact-checking, are defined. In the following chapters, the origin and development of fact-checking are presented, and information behaviour and related concepts are characterized. The research part consists of qualitative research, in which Czech fact-checkers provide insight into the behind-the-scenes of their activities through semi-structured interviews and maps of information horizons. In the Czech environment, the research thus represents a unique probe into the issue of fact-checking work with information sources.
