The exhibition "The age of spirituality" and Kurt Weitzmann

Abstract:

Subject of the thesis is the exhibition Age of Spirituality and Kurt Weitzmann. In the first part of the work the personality of Kurt Weitzmann, specialist on Late Antique art and the conceptor of the exhibition is introduced. Second part is dedicated to the exhibition Age of Spirituality, which represents a turning point in the history of Late Antique art studies, as well as an important moment in Weitzmann’s life. Weitzmann has presented on this exhibition particular works of art in a not yet established way – namely ordering them by their culture background, in which they were created, thus he has presented the complexity and diversity of Late Antique period of time.

Abstract:

Predmetom diplomovej práce je výstava Age of Spirituality a Kurt Weitzmann. V prvej časti práce je predstavená osobnosť Kurta Weitzmanna, odborníka na neskoroantické umenie, a konceptora výstavy. Druhá časť je venovaná výstave Age of Spirituality, ktorá predstavuje zlomový bod v dejinách štúdia neskoroantického umenia, ako aj dôležitý moment vo Weitzmannovom živote. Weitzmann na výstave prezentoval jednotlivé diela spôsobom dovtedy nezaužívaným – a to ich zoradením v rámci kultúrneho pozadia, v ktorom vznikli, čím prezentoval komplexnosť a rôznorodosť neskoroantického obdobia.
