"Opera buffa" in the 18th and in the 1st half of the 19th century

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zabývá operou buffa jako svébytným komickým žánrem italské opery, který takto fungoval v době 18. až 1. poloviny 19. století. Úvodní část práce je věnována charakteristice zmíněného období. Dále je zde ve stručnosti nastíněn vznik opery a její vývoj v 17. století. V rámci jednotlivých vývojových center je pozornost zaměřena především na významné skladatele a počátky komiky v jejich tvorbě. Tento vývoj je sledován až do tzv. reformy libret a vzniku opery seria na přelomu 17. a 18. století. Další část je věnována stručnému popisu vývojových a inspiračních zdrojů opery buffa - intermezzu, neapolské hudební komedii a comedii dell'arte. Dále už je pozornost zaměřena výhradně na operu buffa. Je popsána jednak jako projev společenských tendencí, jednak jako útvar dramatický a samozřejmě i jako forma hudební. Následné kapitoly se týkají vývoje buffy, jakožto vyhraněného a samostatného žánru, přičemž hlavním cílem této části bylo zmapování tvorby významných autorů a přiblížení jejich nejvýznačnějších oper tohoto druhu. Pro větší názornost jsou popisy prokládány notovými ukázkami vybraných árií.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis deals with opera buffa (comic opera) as a distinctive genre of Italian opera which existed from the beginning of eighteenth century to the first half of nineteenth century. The first part of this thesis describes the period itself and the origin of opera. It is mainly focused on the important composers and origin of comic in their works. The development of this genre is followed until the reform of libretto and the origin of opera seria at the end of seventeenth century. Next part deals with a brief description of inspiration sources of opera buffa ? intermezzo, Neapolitan musical comedy and commedia dell'arte (Italian comedy). Hereafter, the thesis is focused on opera buffa only. It is defined as a token of social tendencies ? as a dramatic unit and as a musical form. Following chapters describe opera buffa as a separate genre. The main objective is to outline production of important authors and to describe their most significant operas of this kind. There are illustrations of musical notation for some arias.
