Mongolian Immigrant Workers in Southern Moravia with Focus on the Blansko Region

Abstract:

Práce popisuje okolnosti výběru České republiky a Jihomoravského kraje mongolskými pracovními imigranty. S modelovými ukázkami situace na Blanensku, kde se podle statistik cizinecké policie nacházela až do začátku roku 2008 největší komunita mongolských pracovních imigrantů v České republice. Práce se zabývá důvody výběru této lokality, motivací k odchodu z Mongolska, životními podmínkami mongolských imigrantů, včetně problémů v soužití s místními obyvateli, délkou a charakterem pobytu, dále také rodinnými vazbami, kulturou a tradicemi mongolských imigrantů a postojem českých médií a deníků.

Abstract:

This bachelor’s degree thesis seeks to examine the interplay of factors which make Czech Republic a choice for Mongolian migrant workers. Statistics obtained by the Czech Foreign Police show that up until the begining of the year 2008, the largest community of Mongolian migrant workers in the Czech Republic was found in Blanensko in the Southern Moravian region of the country. Reasons which make this locality attractive are examined here. Furthermore, the thesis looks into why these migrant workers leave their native country in the first place, their living conditions in their new environment in the Czech Republic, length of stay, and coexistential problems with the locals. Also examined are their family ties, cultural and traditional aspects, and the role of the Czech mass media in shaping atitudes towards them.
