Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce analyzuje čtyři pozdní hry Samuela Becketta, Not I, Rockaby, Footfalls, a Eh Joe, které byly publikovány mezi roky 1967 až 1982, s ohledem na prvky expresionistického a minimalistického umění, a taktéž zkoumá využití ženské formy. Tato práce popisuje míru vlivu minimalismu na Beckettovy konstrukce jevištního prostoru a využití geometrických vzorů v jeho hrách. Prvky expresionismu se nacházejí ve vyobrazení postav, specifického sentimentu a tónu, který vyprávění přináší. Zaměřuje se na psaný scénář a také na televizní verzi těchto her. Začátek práce vymezuje umělecké zázemí expresionismu a minimalismu se zaměřením na Beckettovo spojení s těmito uměleckými směry v daném období. Poukazuje také na Beckettovu angažovanost v těchto uměleckých směrech, a dále na jeho vztahy s danými umělci.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis analyses four of Beckett’s later plays Not I, Rockaby, Footfalls, Eh Joe published in 1967-1982, with respect to elements of expressionist and minimalist art and the use of the female form. This thesis describes the degree of minimalist influence on Beckett’s construction of stage space and use of geometrical patterns in his plays. Expressionist elements are found in the portrayal of characters and the specific sentiment and tone the narration carries. It concentrates on the written script and the television form of these plays. The artistic background of expressionism and minimalism is set out in the beginning with the interest of Beckett’s connection to it at the time. It also points out Beckett’s own involvement with both of the movements and his relation to them.
