Translation and Analysis of Tourism Materials in Brno

Abstract:

This diploma thesis deals with translations and analysis of tourism materials in Brno. Chosen materials include tourism guides, information leaflets about monuments, transport, etc. However, only materials that are connected to Brno have been used. The issue is viewed from a tourist’s perspective. The thesis is divided into two main parts - theoretical and practical. The theoretical part includes explaining the terms that are closely linked to the matter of tourism. There is also a quick introduction to specific materials which are further discussed. Czech and German materials are compared and analyzed in the practical part. Every analyzed part is commented or another possible translation is suggested. The aim of the diploma thesis is to find out how the materials are translated and whether universal terminology is used, both in German texts and the Czech ones. Moreover, it is examined if German tourists receive the same information as Czechs, if the German materials are deprived of some information, or have more. Due to the fact that the issue is viewed from the tourists’ perspective, the practical part is enriched by interviews with tourists from Germany. This helps to determine if they meet with a lack of information in the materials and in which this is most common. In case of incomplete information, it is investigated whether necessary information can be found from other sources - from staff in the information centres, transport companies, etc.

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se zabývá překlady a analýzou materiálů cestovního ruchu v Brně. Mezi vybranými materiály jsou průvodci cestovního ruchu, informační letáky, které se týkají památek, dopravy a další. Avšak pouze ty, které se týkají města Brna. Na problematiku je nahlíženo z pohledu turistů. Práce je rozdělena do dvou hlavních částí – teoretické a praktické. V rámci teoretické jsou vysvětleny hlavní pojmy, které se týkají problematiky. Dále je zde v krátkosti seznámení s konkrétními materiály, které se dále rozebírají. V praktické části jsou porovnávány a analyzovány české a německé materiály. Ke každé analyzované části je napsán komentář, a případně i jiný návrh překladu. Cílem práce je zjistit, jakým způsobem jsou materiály překládány, zda se v nich používá jednotná terminologie. A to nejen v německých textech, ale i v těch českých. Dále je zkoumáno, zda němečtí turisté dostávají stejné informace, jaké mají ti čeští, zda jsou materiály v německém jazyce ochuzeny o některé informace, případně jich mají více. Vzhledem k tomu, že je na problematiku nahlíženo z pohledu turistů, je praktická část obohacena i o rozhovory s německy mluvícími turisty. To napomáhá zjistit, zda se turisté setkávají s nedostatkem informací v materiálech a u jakých je to nejčastější. A v případě nekompletních informací zda se dají potřebné informace sehnat z jiných zdrojů – od zaměstnanců informačních center, dopravců atd. – a v jaké míře.
