Study of carbon nanotubes growth and their functionalization

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce je věnována studiu růstu uhlíkových nanotrubek (CNTs) metodou chemické depozice z plynné fáze (CVD) a jejich funkcionalizací pomocí depozice oxidu titaničitého (TiO2) po atomárních vrstvách (ALD) a pomocí plazmové CVD (PECVD) z cyklopropylaminu (CPA). Růst CNTs probíhal na křemíkových destičkách s nadeponovanou 200 nm vrstvou oxidu křemičitého (SiO2) a na křemíkových destičkách, z nichž byl přirozený oxid odstraněn. U obou druhů destiček byla jako katalyzátor použita tenká vrstva železa připravená napařováním elektronových svazkem. Vzorky byly analyzovány Ramanovou spektroskopií, rastrovacím elektronovým mikroskopem a rentgenovou fotoelektronovou spektroskopií. Byl studován vliv přítomnosti vrstvy SiO2, vliv různé tloušťky katalyzátoru a vliv různé teploty na růst CNTs. Dále byl studován vliv různých depozičních módů a počtu cyklů při ALD přípravě TiO2 vrstev. Funkcionalizace CNTs se podařila prokázat u obou použitých metod ALD TiO2 i PECVD z CPA.

Abstract:

This thesis deals with the study of the growth of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) by chemical vapor deposition (CVD) and their functionalization by the atomic layer deposition (ALD) of titanium dioxide (TiO2) and by plasma enhanced CVD (PECVD) from cyclopropylamine (CPA). The growth of CNTs was carried out on silicon substrates with deposited 200 nm thick silicon dioxide (SiO2) layer and on the silicon substrates from which the native oxide was removed. An iron thin film prepared by electron beam evaporation was used as the CNTs catalyst for both the substrate types. The samples were analyzed by Raman spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The influence of the presence of the SiO2 layer, the influence of different catalyst thickness and the influence of different temperatures on the growth of CNTs were studied. Additionally, the various deposition modes and the number of cycles during ALD of TiO2 were investigated. The functionalization of CNTs was proved for both the above described methods, ALD of TiO2 and PECVD from CPA.
