Mobility of bed sediments and fine wood in the Bystrý Stream

Abstract:

Práce je zaměřená na monitoring korytových sedimentů a jemného říčního dřeva na Bystrém potoce. První část je věnována shrnutí dosavadních znalostí a poznatků mobility sedimentů a říčního dřeva a metodice. V dalších částech se pak zaměřuji na terénní výzkum a jeho výsledkům. Cílem práce bylo provést měření mobility klastů a jemného říčního dřeva během jednoho roku. Na Bystrém potoce byly vybrány dvě odlišné lokality, přičemž první nalezneme na středním úseku a druhou na horním úseku toku. Na každé z nich bylo uloženo celkem 200 klastů. Ty byly následně rozděleny do tři frakcí, které jsou barevně odlišeny modrou (největší), zelenou a červenou (nejmenší). U první lokality je velikost klastů následující: modrá 57-96 mm; zelená 44-56 mm; červená 26-43 mm. Klasty lokality č. 2 mají velikosti: modrá 58-90 mm; zelená 43-57 mm; červená 20-42 mm. Rozdělení je takové, aby počet byl u všech frakcí přibližně podobný (cca kolem 60 až 70 klastů na jednu frakci). U jemného říčního dřeva byly specifikace: délka více než 1 metr a šířka více než 5 cm. Monitoring probíhal ve dnech od 12.2. 2021 do 23.2. 2022. Výsledky pak ukázaly rozdílnou mobilitu jak sedimentů, tak jemného říčního dřeva na obou lokalitách. Zatímco na lokalitě č. 1, které je převážně antropogenního původu s lichoběžníkovým korytem, byla zaznamenána mobilita (v řádech metrů) všech tří frakcí klastů i jemného dřeva (v řádech desítek až stovek metrů), tak na lokalitě č. 2, které má převážně horský charakter, byla mobilita zaznamenána pouze u říčního dřeva (v řádu desítek metrů). Klasty nebyly mobilní po celou dobu měření. Kromě morfologie koryta je dalším důvodem nízký vodní stav Bystrého potoka, měřený na stanici v Janovicích. Ten po dobu měření nevykazoval dostatečně velké hodnoty na to, aby došlo k výraznější mobilitě nejen na lokalitě č. 2, ale i na lokalitě č. 1, kde se mobilita předpokládala mnohem větší mobilita.

Abstract:

The work is focused on monitoring channel sediments and fine river wood on the Bystrý stream. The first part is devoted to a summary of the existing knowledge and findings on sediment and river wood mobility and methodology. The next sections I focus on field research and its results. The aim of the work was to carry out measurements of clast mobility and fine river wood over a period of one year. Two distinct sites were selected on the Bystrý stream, the first one being found in the middle reach and the second one on the upper reach of the stream. A total of 200 sediments were deposited at each site. These were subsequently divided into three fractions, which are colour coded blue (largest), green and red (smallest). For the first site, the clast size is as follows: blue 57-96 mm; green 44-56 mm; red 26-43 mm. The sediment sizes of site 2 are: blue 58-90 mm; green 43-57 mm; red 20-42 mm. The distribution is such that the number is approximately similar for all fractions (about 60 to 70 clasts per fraction). For the fine river wood, the specifications were: more than 1 metre long and more than 5 cm wide. Monitoring was conducted from 12 February 2021 to 23 February 2022. The results then showed different mobility of both sediment and fine river wood at the two sites. While at Site 1, which is predominantly anthropogenic in origin with a trapezoidal channel, mobility (in meters) of all 3 clast fractions and fine wood was recorded (in tens to hundreds of meters), at Site 2, which is predominantly upland in character, mobility was recorded only for riverine wood (in tens of meters). Clasts were not mobile throughout the entire measurement period. In addition to the channel morphology, another reason for this is the low water level of the Bystré stream, measured at the station in Janovice. This did not show sufficiently high values for the duration of the measurements to cause significant mobility not only at Site 2, but also at Site 1, where mobility was expected to be much higher.
