Characteristics of leisure-time physical activities in inactive women and men depending on age

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce zkoumá charakteristiku volnočasových pohybových aktivit u neaktivních žen a mužů v závislosti na věku. Za poslední desetiletí se proměnil životní styl obyvatel spíše k sedavému způsobu života, což značně ovlivňuje množství pohybové aktivity, kterou populace do svého volného času zařazuje. Cílem práce bylo zjistit rozdíly v charakteru volnočasového pohybového chování u neaktivních mužů a žen napříč věkovými skupinami a na základě pohlaví. Rovněž se zkoumalo, jak volnočasová pohybová aktivita (VPA) ovlivňuje fyzické sebepojetí u neaktivních středoškolských studentů v závislosti na pohlaví. VPA byla zjišťovaná pomoci ACLS a LTEQ dotazníku a obraz fyzického sebepojetí byl zjišťování za pomocí sebehodnotícího dotazníku PSPP. Výsledky nepotvrdily statisticky významný vztah v celkovém množství VPA na základě pohlaví, nýbrž jen u vybraných aktivit. Významné rozdíly se prokázaly v závislosti na věku. Nejvíce se odlišovala skupina ve věku 15-18 let od ostatních věkových kategorií (19-35, 36-45, 46-65). VPA taktéž do jisté míry ovlivňuje fyzické sebepojetí u středoškolských studentů. Zde zkoumaná skupina neaktivních jedinců vykazovala určitou míru PA ve volném čase, proto by další výzkum měl směřovat na intervenční snahy a podporu již realizovaných aktivit těchto skupin, aby měli možnost dosáhnout benefitů, jež vykonávání PA nabízí.

Abstract:

This thesis examines the characteristics of leisure-time physical activities among inactive women and men across different age groups. Over the past decade, the lifestyle of the population has shifted towards a more sedentary way of life, significantly affecting the amount of physical activity included in people's leisure time. The aim of the study was to identify differences in the nature of leisure-time physical behavior among inactive men and women across age groups and based on gender. It also investigated how leisure-time physical activity (LTPA) affects physical self-concept in inactive high school students depending on gender. LTPA was assessed using the ACLS and LTEQ questionnaire, and physical self-concept was assessed using the PSPP self-assessment questionnaire. The results did not confirm a statistically significant relationship in the overall amount of LTPA based on gender, but only in selected activities. Significant differences were found based on age, with the group aged 15-18 differing the most from other age categories (19-35, 36-45, 46-65). LTPA also somewhat influences physical self-concept among high school students. The group of inactive individuals studied here exhibited a certain level of leisure-time physical activity (PA), so further research should focus on intervention efforts and support for the activities already undertaken by these groups, providing them with the opportunity to achieve the benefits that engaging in PA offers.
