Demographic comparison of the Czech Republic and France with a focus on reproduction

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá demografickou komparací ČR a Francie se zaměřením na analýzu reprodukce. Přestože úhrnná plodnost v ČR vykazovala v posledních letech rostoucí trend, není dostatečná pro zajištění prosté reprodukce obyvatelstva. Pro komparaci je záměrně zvolena Francie, jakožto země s nejvyšší úhrnnou plodností v rámci Evropské unie a silnou rolí rodiny ve společnosti. Cílem bakalářské práce je zhodnotit vývoj základních demografických procesů v obou zemích, zejména se zaměřením na plodnost a porodnost, včetně faktorů plodnost ovlivňujících, a na základě výsledků analýz odhadnout, které přístupy by bylo možné či vhodné aplikovat po francouzském vzoru pro ČR ke zvýšení plodnosti a zmírnění důsledků demografického stárnutí. První část práce je věnována teoretickému úvodu, a to především rešerši literatury shrnující základní poznatky v oblasti dané problematiky. Praktická část práce se v návaznosti na nízkou úroveň plodnosti s využitím řady ukazatelů zabývá analýzou vývoje demografického stárnutí obou zemí, která potvrzuje, že ČR stárne demograficky rychleji než Francie. Použité metody pro vyhodnocení statistických dat jsou v této práci zejména deskripce, analýza a komparace. Za pomoci programovacího jazyka Python byla provedena také korelační analýza, která zkoumala vztah mezi změnou úhrnné plodnosti a HDP obou zemí v posledních 30 letech, kdy slabší závislost mezi proměnnými byla potvrzena v ČR. S využitím softwaru QGIS jsou konstruovány kartogramy a kartodiagramy, které umožňují nahlížet na rozdíly v plodnosti dle územního členění. V oblasti sladění rodinného a pracovního života bylo zjištěno, že ženy s dětmi do 6 let se v ČR participují na trhu práce méně, služby péče o děti jsou nedostatečné a mateřství je tak výraznějším zásahem do kariéry žen než ve Francii.

Abstract:

This bachelor's thesis deals with a demographic comparison of the Czech Republic and France, focusing on the analysis of reproduction. Although the total fertility rate in the Czech Republic has shown an upward trend in recent years, it is not enough for the reproduction of the population. France, as the country with the highest total fertility rate in the European Union and strong family role in society, is intentionally chosen for comparison. The aim of this bachelor's thesis is to evaluate the development of basic demographic processes in both countries, particularly with a focus on fertility and natality, including fertility factors, and based on the results of the analysis to estimate which approaches could be possible or appropriate to apply in the Czech Republic following the French model, to increase fertility and mitigate the consequences of demographic aging. The first chapter is devoted to the theoretical introduction to the subject, primarily a literature review summarizing the main findings on the topic. The practical part deals with the use of various indicators to analyse the development of demographic aging of both countries in relation to the low fertility level, confirming that the Czech Republic is aging demographically faster than France. The methods used to evaluate statistical data in this thesis are mainly description, analysis, and comparison. Using the Python programming language, a correlation analysis was also performed, examining the relationship between the change of total fertility rate and gross domestic product of both countries in the last 30 years, when was confirmed a weaker positive connection between the variables in the Czech Republic. Using QGIS software, cartograms and cartodiagrams are constructed to look at differences in fertility by region. In the area of work-family balance, it was observed that women with children up to 6 years of age in Czech Republic participate less in the labour market, childcare services are insufficient, and motherhood is a more significant interference in women's careers than in France
