Interaction between comet trails and solar corona

Abstract:

This thesis is about a concurrent study of two fascinating phenomenons of the Solar system. First one is the solar corona, which is currently described by various models. The~second phenomenon is the comet C/2011 W3 (Lovejoy), which belongs to a very specific group of sungrazing comets. This group is known for a very small perihelion distance from the solar surface. The paper focuses on the interaction of the comet with the coronal plasma. This process is associated with emission of radiation in the extreme ultraviolet band (EUV). This thesis covers crossing of the comet through the corona until it reaches the perihelion. The best observation of this phenomenon was taken by five filters in the EUV band from the Atmospheric Imaging Assembly (AIA) mounted on Solar Dynamic Observatory (SDO) spacecraft. The images were processed and thoroughly analyzed. Main results of this thesis are comparative studies of ratios between the intensities in different spectral lines.

Abstract:

V předložené práci jsou zároveň studovány dva fascinující fenomény Sluneční soustavy. V první řadě je to sluneční koróna, jejíž charakteristika je i v současnosti založena na různých modelech. Druhým fenoménem je kometa C/2011 W3 (Lovejoy), která patří do velmi specifické skupiny tzv. sungrazing komet. Tato skupina se vyznačuje velmi malou vzdáleností perihélia od slunečního povrchu. Práce je zaměřena na interakci komety s plazmou sluneční koróny, která je spojena s emisí záření v extrémně ultrafialové oblasti spektra (EUV). Konkrétně byla studována část průletu komety sluneční korónou před dosažením perihélia. Nejlépe byl objekt detekovatelný v pěti EUV filtrech přístroje Atmospheric Imaging Assembly (AIA) namontovaného na kosmické lodi mise Solar Dynamic Observatory (SDO). Právě snímky získané z těchto pěti filtrů jsou zpracovány a dále studovány v této práci. Rozpracovány a porovnávány jsou taktéž poměry mezi jednotlivými intenzitami v různých spektrálních čarách.
