Lightning Network as an alternative to card payments

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá platebním protokolem Lightning Network. V teoretické části jsou charakterizovány základní principy fungování Bitcionu, které Lightning Network využívá. Zároveň jsou zde popsány hlavní vlastnosti, které Bitcoinu zabraňují odesílat velké množství transakcí najednou. Dále je detailně vysvětleno fungování samotné platební sítě Lightning Network. V praktické části je Lightning Network srovnána v rychlosti, výši poplatku a bezpečnosti s platbami platební kartou na základě dat sesbíraných z plateb prováděných autorem. Je zde pozorována adopce Lightning Network ve světě a v lokálním podniku v posledních letech. Nakonec jsou zanalyzovány nástroje, které umožňují tuto síť využívat k odesílání a příjímání plateb.

Abstract:

This bachelor's thesis deals with the Lightning Network payment protocol. In the theoretical part, the basic principles of Bitcion's operation, which the Lightning Network uses, are characterized. At the same time, the main features that prevent Bitcoin from sending a large number of transactions at once are described here. Furthermore, the functioning of the Lightning Network payment network itself is explained in detail. In the practical part, Lightning Network is compared in terms of speed, fee and security with payment card payments based on data collected from payments made by the author. The adoption of the Lightning Network in the world and in the local enterprise in recent years is observed here. Finally, the tools that allow this network to be used to send and receive payments are analyzed.
