Abstract:

This thesis examines the use of narrative and discourse strategies by two popular same-sex family blogs on Instagram in order to determine the connection between their communicative strategies and their approaches to self-presentation online. Parenting is a popular topic among online bloggers and examining these accounts can provide useful insights into the self-presentation of online microcelebrities. The theoretical part of this thesis explores the topics of social media, the language of online users, and developments in the field of narrative analysis that have been proposed as more suitable for examining short-form content. By employing the methods of narrative and discourse analysis, this thesis examines a collection of posts shared by both profiles to demonstrate how different narrative and discursive choices reflect the authors' attitudes towards their followers and their offline surroundings. The results indicate that the parents' attitudes impact the construction of their narrative as well as the linguistic and visual devices they use when creating their online posts. The two examined profiles also differ in their attitudes towards their followers and their presentation of parenting itself. As a result, one profile's effort to present parenting in a primarily positive light resulted in different narrative and discursive strategies than those of its counterpart.

Abstract:

Cílem této diplomové práce je prozkoumat využití narativních a diskurzivních strategií na dvou populárních instagramových blozích, které se věnují tématu rodičovství. Rodičovství je mezi online blogery oblíbeným tématem a analýza obsahu těchto účtů tak může poskytnout užitečný vhled do komunikačních strategií online mikrocelebrit. Teoretická část práce se zabývá sociálními sítěmi a komunikačními strategiemi jejich uživatelů. Dále jsou v práci popsány nové přístupy v oboru narativní analýzy, které vznikly za účelem zkoumání obsahu s krátkým rozsahem. Analytická část práce se zaměřuje na dva instagramové rodinné profily náležící dvěma stejnopohlavním párům. Pomocí metod narativní a diskurzivní analýzy práce zkoumá soubor příspěvků z obou profilů, aby ukázala, jak jejich volba narativních a diskurzivních strategií odráží jejich odlišné postoje nejen k tématu rodičovství, ale také k jejich roli online mikrocelebrit. Výsledky ukazují, že postoje rodičů ovlivňují strukturu jejich narativu i jazykové prostředky, které využívají při tvorbě svých online příspěvků. Oba zkoumané profily se také liší v přístupu ke svým sledujícím a v prezentaci samotného tématu rodičovství. Profil snažící se prezentovat rodičovství pouze v pozitivním světle tak například volil jiné strategie než jeho protějšek.
