On the streets though educated

Abstract:

Předložená práce je zaměřená na otázku, jakým způsobem lidé bez domova s úplným středním vzděláním, ukončeným závěrečnou zkouškou, vnímají svoji střední školu a zda a jakým způsobem střední škola ovlivnila jejich současný způsob života. Současně je zde reflektován náhled na to, jak tito lidé vnímají vlastní hodnotu, svoje postavení ve společnosti, ve své sociální skupině. Při volbě tématu jsem přihlížela k předpokladu, že středoškolské vzdělání přinese člověku určité množství informací, zkušeností, pedagogických vzorů a vědomostí, které jej mohou ochránit před životem na ulici. Přesto je určité procento takto vzdělaných lidí v pozici bezdomovců, lidí vyčleněných na okraj společnosti. Tento problém však není jen pouze jejich osobní. Odhlédneme-li od ztráty lidské důstojnosti a nenaplnění jejich základních potřeb, stává se bezdomovectví problémem celé společnosti, který se promítá v nutnosti se o tyto jedince postarat ze sociálního i zdravotního hlediska a zvyšuje finanční zátěž společnosti. Empirická část přináší výsledky devíti rozhovorů s lidmi bez domova, oslovenými přímo na ulici v centru Brna. Podstatou polostrukturovaných rozhovorů bylo zjistit, zda a jakým způsobem vzpomínají tito lidé na svoji střední školu, na pedagogy, na závěrečnou zkoušku, jestli jejich zkušenost byla pozitivní nebo negativní a zda vnímání jejich studia ovlivnilo nástup do zaměstnání, které jim zabezpečí dostatek financí pro možnost bydlení. Takové informace dopomohly k pochopení toho, jak lidé bez domova implicitně a explicitně vnímají jejich středoškolské vzdělání včetně dopadu na jejich současnou situaci. Závěrečná kapitola shrnuje a hodnotí informace a výstupy empirické části. Definuje parametry, které hrály důležitou roli ve vzdělávacím procesu respondentů, ukazuje vazby a vztahy mezi nimi. Uzavírá získané informace do styčného bodu, který hovoří o vztahu lidí bez domova ke svému vzdělání a o tom, jaký význam, jakou hodnotu pro ně toto vzdělání mělo a má. Nejvýznamnějšími spojnicemi je použití dokončeného středoškolského vzdělání pro utvrzení vlastní hodnoty v současné fázi života a zjištění, že výběr oboru hrál signifikantní roli v tom, jaký postoj lidé bez domova k práci měli a v jejich motivaci věnovat se oboru.

Abstract:

This thesis focuses on how homeless people who had completed their secondary education with a final exam perceive their secondary education and whether and how the secondary education has influenced their current ways of life. Additionally, this thesis explores individual reflections on how these people perceive their own value, their position in society and in their social group. When choosing this topic, I took into account the assumption that secondary education offers each person a certain amount of information, experience, behavioural patterns and knowledge that can potentially protect them from life on the streets. Nevertheless, a certain percentage of such educated people are in the position of homelessness – they are people excluded to the margins of the society. This problem, however, is not just individual. Apart from the loss of human dignity and the failure to meet basic living needs, homelessness becomes a problem for a society as a whole. Such prism is reflected in the need to take care of these individuals regarding their social and health needs and increases the financial burden on society. The empirical part presents the results of nine interviews with homeless people, approached directly on the street in the centre of Brno. The aim of the semi-structured interviews was to find out whether and how these people remember their high school, teachers, final exam, whether their experience was positive or negative and whether their perception of their studies influenced the beginning of employment, which would provide them with sufficient funds for housing. Such information has helped to understand how homeless people implicitly and explicitly perceive their secondary education, including the perceived impact on their current situation. The final chapter summarizes and evaluates the information and outputs of the empirical part. It defines the parameters that played an important role in the educational process of the respondents and shows the links and relationships between them. It brings all the information into a concise point, which explains the relationship of homeless people to their education and its importance. It illustrates the value that this education had and has for them. The most important links are the use of completed secondary education to affirm self-worth in the current phase of life and the finding that the choice of field played a significant role in the attitude of homeless people towards work and, consequently, their motivation to pursue their field of expertise.
