Gender inequalities in the labour market

Abstract:

Diplomová práce pojednává o tématu nerovností mužů a žen na pracovním trhu. Blíže se zaměřuje na nerovnosti ve finančním odměňování za vykonanou práci v závislosti na pohlaví, porovnání výše těchto nerovností ve skutečnosti a v očekávání studentů VŠ a nakonec též na genderové nerovnosti v nezaměstnanosti. Cílem práce je zjistit, zda jsou v subpopulaci absolventů VŠ rozdíly ve výplatách mužů a žen a zda jsou tyto příjmy ovlivněny také jiným faktorem než pohlavím. Dále porovnat očekávané a reálné hodnoty gender pay gapu a také zjistit, zda je v České republice odlišná nezaměstnanost mužů a žen. Cíle jsou realizovány za použití metody Multinomické logistické regrese, prováděné pomocí statistického softwaru SPSS, a též Vícenásobné korespondenční analýzy, prováděné pomocí softwaru XLSTAT. Práce dochází k závěru, že příjmy absolventů ze zaměstnání se v závislosti na pohlaví skutečně liší a dokazuje také nezanedbatelné působení dalšího faktoru, jímž je typ vykonávané profese. Z pohledu nezaměstnaných žen a mužů nebyly v současné době žádné zásadní nerovnosti prokázány. Díky zaměření na absolventy i nepříliš často analyzovanou nerovnost v nezaměstnanosti představuje tato práce pohled na hojně diskutované téma z jiného úhlu.

Abstract:

This thesis deals with the inequality of men and women in the labour market. It focuses on the problem of unequal pay caused by a different approach to man and woman workers. It also compares this real inequality with a predicted inequality, based on the expectations of university students. The last object of interest is the gender inequality in unemployment. The aim of this thesis is to find out whether male university graduates have different wages than female university graduates in the Czech Republic and whether this is caused only by the worker’s gender or is it influenced by at least another one different factor. The second aim is to compare real and expected gender pay gap values and the last one to find out whether there are differences in the unemployment caused by the person’s gender in the Czech Republic. Advanced statistical methods were used to achieve the outlined targets – Multinomial Logistic Regression in SPSS Statistics and Multinomial Correspondence analysis in XLSTAT. This thesis concludes that wages of women and men really depend on their gender and they are determined by another factor (like type of the job), as well. In contrary to that, no differences in the unemployment caused by gender were found. This thesis provides a new and uncommon view of the labour market gender inequalities, especially thanks to its university graduates‘ point of view and the gender unemployment gap analysis.
