Adults health literacy in the field of dental care

Abstract:

Úvod: Bakalářská práce se zabývá zdravotní gramotností laické veřejnosti v oblasti péče o chrup u dospělých. Cíl práce: Hlavním cílem bakalářské práce bylo zjistit, jaká je úroveň znalostí laické veřejnosti v oblasti péče o chrup u dospělých. Metodika: Metodika průzkumu je kvantitativní. Metoda průzkumu byla zvolena formou dotazníků, který je vykonstruovaný a je tvořen uzavřenými otázkami. Dotazníkový průzkum byl prováděn v období od září do listopadu 2023. Průzkumný soubor Celkem bylo úspěšně osloveno 100 respondentů sestávajících z laické veřejnosti, výhradně pacientů/klientů stomatologické ordinace. Věkové rozmezí dotazovaných respondentů bylo rozčleněno do čtyř věkových skupin, od 18 do 25 let, od 26 do 40 let, od 41 do 60 let a od 61 a více. Respondenti byli osloveni k vyplnění předem vytisknutých formulářových dotazníků. Technika dotazníkového šetření Dotazník vlastní konstrukce obsahoval čtyři otázky týkající se osobních údajů respondentů, dvě otázky týkající se vlastního názoru respondentů, dvě otázky týkající se příznaků onemocnění respondentů, dvě otázky týkající se informačních zdrojů respondentů, dvanáct otázek týkajících se péče o dutinu ústní respondentů. Nabídka otázek byla uzavřená, s možností výběru pouze jedné odpovědi z možných dvou a více odpovědí. Bylo rozdáno 130 dotazníků, 25 jich nebylo odevzdáno zpět a 5 bylo pro neúplnost vyřazeno. Respondence činila 76,9. Následné výsledky byly analyzovány a získaná data byla graficky zpracována v programu Microsoft Word a slovně okomentována. Výsledky: Z analýzy dat vyplynulo, že laická veřejnost často podceňuje vhodnou péči o dutinu ústní. Laická veřejnost mnohdy podceňuje pravidelné preventivní prohlídky u stomatologa a návštěvy dentálních hygienistek a neuvědomují si následky a důležitost daných vyšetření. Ve většině případů přichází až když dojde k nějakému problému v dutině ústní. Závěr: Dodržování správných hygienických návyků v péči o dutinu ústní, včetně pravidelných návštěv stomatologa a dentálních hygienistek, je důležitou součástí běžného života. Stanovené cíle bakalářské práce byly splněny.

Abstract:

Introduction: This bachelor thesis concentrates on the level of health literacy knowledge, specifically in the field of dental care in adults amongst the amateur public. Aim: The main aim of this thesis was to find out on what level is the amateur demographic educated in, in the area of adult dental care. Methodology: Quantitative research methodology is applied. The survey method was chosen in the form of a constructed questionnaire with close-ended questions. The survey was carried out between September to November 2023. Research participants In total, 100 respondents, exclusively dental patients from the amateur public were successfully approached. They can be divided into 4 different age groups, 18 to 25 years old, 26 to 40 years old, 41 to 60 years old and 61 and older. They were asked to fill out printed questionnaires. Questionnaire survey technique The self-constructed questionnaire contained four questions regarding respondents personal information, two questions asking their personal opinions, two questions about the symptoms of their illnesses, two questions asking which informative sources they use and twelve questions regarding the respondents dental cavity care. All questions were close-ended and participants could choose only one answer out of two or more options. 130 questionnaires were handed out, 25 were not returned and 5 were withdrawn due to incompleteness. Respondence was 76,9 percent. Results were analyzed and the collected data was graphically compiled in Microsoft Word and verbally commented. Results: Data analysis showed the amateur public often underestimates the proper care of the oral cavity. They often underestimate the importance of routine checkups at the dentist or dental hygienist and do not realize the consequences and importance of said exams. In most cases they will not visit the dental practice until there is an actual problem with their dental cavity. Conclusion: When it comes to taking care of the dental cavity, forming proper hygienic habits and regular checkups at the dentist or dental hygienist play an important part in our lives. All objectives set for the bachelor thesis have been met.
