The image of the persecution of the Jews in German-language literature using the example of the novel Leonie Ossowski's "Star without Heaven" and its film adaptation

Abstract:

The diploma thesis focuses on the topic of the persecution of the Jews using the example of Leonie Ossowski's novel "Star without a Sky" and its film adaptation. The central theme of the novel is the moral contradiction between the principles prescribed by the strict upbringing in the spirit of the National Socialist regime and the natural instincts of a person. The theoretical part discusses the historical, social and not least cultural background of the problem. The practical part focuses on selected passages from the book and film that clarify and specify the topic. The aim of this work is to examine the image of the persecution of the Jews in a concrete case on the basis of the book and the film.

Abstract:

Die Diplomarbeit befasst sich mit dem Thema der Judenverfolgung am Beispiel des Romans Leonie Ossowskis "Stern ohne Himmel" und dessen Verfilmung. Das zentrale Thema des Romans ist der moralische Widerspruch zwischen den durch die strenge Erziehung im Geiste des nationalsozialistischen Regimes vorgegebenen Prinzipien und den natürlichen Instinkten eines Menschen. Im theoretischen Teil wird der historische, gesellschaftliche und nicht zuletzt kulturelle Hintergrund der Problematik erörtert. Der praktische Teil konzentriert sich auf ausgewählte Passagen aus dem Buch und dem Film, die das Thema verdeutlichen und präzisieren. Ziel dieser Arbeit ist es, das Bild der Judenverfolgung in einem konkreten Fall anhand des Buches und des Films zu untersuchen.
