Zdeněk Liška and his film music for Karel Zeman's Vynález zkázy

Abstract:

Anotace : Zdeněk Liška napsal hudbu filmu režiséra Karla Zemana Vynález zkázy a podařilo se mu tak dokreslit atmosféru a ducha doby, do níž je zasazen děj románu Julese Vernea. Hudba zde působí jako dokonalá kulisa, která samotný děj filmu nikterak nenarušuje,ale naopak stylově podtrhuje jednotlivé pasáže filmu. Zde je třeba zmínit hlavně hudební uchopení vyhlášených Zemanových scén z podmořského světa, fascinující imitace zvuků strojů ponorce, apod. Karel Zeman vytvořil vynikají dílo,které posbíralo mnohá zahraniční ocenění a hudba Zděňka Lišky se na této skutečnosti podílela velikou měrou.

Abstract:

Zdenek Liska worked in the Zlin Film Studio as early as 1945 where he met and collaborated with Karel Zeman. The origin of the film A Deadly Invention is connected with this place. It was here where Liska could take advantage of opportunity to directly influence the final form of the work which opened his way into his professional career. To other considerable producers whose not neglectable participation brought the resulting quality of the film score must be included a screenwriter and poet, Frantisek Hrubin, as well as a narrative author, Jiri Brdecka. It is obvious that it was just this musicalization of an unconventional Verne´s theme which enabled Liska to deliver from film symphonism for films containing his music and being produced at the time of the film A Deadly Invention and some of them afterwards still embodied these preservative trends. Karel Zeman, renowned film director, had precisely created such an original work that it presented a challenge not only for the author of music himself, but also for the others who actively participated in its creation. Therefore, besides exquisite music synchrony with pictures the film was given original colouring, too. Herewith was described the spirit of Verne´s era and an illustrative character was used to corroborate the main spirit of the film in a meaningful way.
