Analysis of Engine Oils for Transport Vehicles Using Instrumental Methods

Abstract:

Disertační práce se věnuje tribotechnické diagnostice (TTD) dopravních prostředků a využití vybraných instrumentálních metod ? infračervené spektrometrie s Fourierovou transformací (FTIR spektrometrie), atomové emisní spektrometrie (AES), analytické ferrografie v kombinaci s optickou mikroskopií, rastrovací elektronové mikroskopie (REM) alokální elektronové mikroanalýzy (EDX) v analýze olejů. Kombinací těchto metod lze jednak identifikovat a kvantifikovat chemické procesy degradace a kontaminace olejů, ale také analyzovat částice opotřebení nesené olejem, a tak usuzovat na charakter fyzikálních i chemických dějů, které se v systému odehrávají. Cílem této práce je - identifikace, zobecnění a kvantitativní popis změn fyzikálních a chemických vlastností motorových olejů, k nimž dochází v průběhu exploatace olejových náplní během provozu dopravních prostředků, - využití pokročilých matematicko-statistických metod při zpracování souboru tribodiagnostických dat, která byla získána analýzou olejů. V rámci práce byly navrženy a ověřeny prediktivní FTIR.chemometrické modely stanovení důležitých tribodiagnostických parametrů ? inematické viskozity při 100 °C (KV100°C) a čísla celkové alkality (TBN). Byl zpracován postup aplikace vybraných metod vícerozměrné statistické analýzy (analýzy hlavních komponent a diskriminační analýzy) na matici ribodiagnostických dat. Kombinací instrumentálních metod tribotechnické diagnostiky (TTD) byly analyzovány a zobecněny vztahy mezi degradačními procesy, ke kterým během provozu motorového oleje dochází, a charakterem procesu provozního opotřebení částí motoru, kde je tento olej aplikován.

Abstract:

The dissertation work deals with tribotechnical diagnostics (TTD) of transport vehicles and with the use of selected instrumental methods ? infra-red spectrometry with Fourier transformation (FTIR spectrometry), atomic emission spectrometry (AES), analytical ferrography combined with optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and local electron microanalysis (EDX) for oil analysis. By combining these methods, chemical processes of oil degradation and contamination can be identified and quantified; moreover, wear particles carried by oil can be analyzed in order to deduce the characteristics of physical as well as chemical actions that occur in the system. The aim of this work is to explore the following areas: - identification, generalization and quantitative description of changes in physical and chemical properties of engine oils that occur during the exploitation of oil fills during the operation of transport vehicles, - use of advanced mathematical-statistical methods for processing the collection of tribodiagnostical data obtained by analyzing oils. The paper proposes and verifies predictive FTIR-chemometrical models of assigning the important tribodiagnostical parameters ? kinematic viscosity at 100 °C (KV100°C) and the total base number (TBN). A procedure of applying the selected methods of multidimensional statistical analysis (analysis of major components and discrimination analysis) on the tribotechnical data matrix has been processed. By combining the instrumental methods of tribotechnical diagnostics, relations between the degradation processes that occur during the operation of the engine oil and the characteristics of the process of operational wear of engine parts where this oil was applied have been analyzed and generalized.
