Life satisfaction, depressivity, subjective stress of illness and coping strategies in parents of diabetic children

Abstract:

Diplomová práce zkoumá vzájemné korelace mezi životní spokojeností, depresivitou, copingovými strategiemi a subjektivně vnímanou zátěží diabetu (u dítěte) ve výzkumném souboru rodičů diabetických dětí. Druhým cílem bylo srovnat zjištěné proměnné s kontrolní skupinou rodičů zdravých dětí. Posledním cílem bylo nalézt konkrétní zátěžové, ale i protektivní faktory, spojené se specifickou péčí o diabetické děti. Výzkumný soubor tvoří 57 rodičů diabetických dětí, kontrolní skupinu pak 57 rodičů zdravých dětí. K měření zkoumaných proměnných byly použity tyto nástroje: škála SWLS, dotazník BDI-II, dotazník SVF 78 a sémantický diferenciál pro měření subjektivně vnímané zátěže diabetu u svého dítěte, který byl zhotoven autory studie. Součástí testové baterie pro rodiče diabetických dětí byly také otevřené otázky, ve kterých jsme se např. ptali, co tyto rodiče podpořilo v době, kdy dítěti byl diabetes diagnostikován, co jim dodalo v té době naději, co je nejvíce tíží v souvislosti s péčí o nemocné dítě, co jim pomáhá nejtěžší chvíle spojené s diabetem překonávat a co by potřebovali, aby samotná péče o diabetické dítě byla lehčí. Získaná data byla zpracována v programu SPSS a výsledky jsou prezentovány v části Diskuze.

Abstract:

The thesis examines the correlations among life satisfaction, depressivity, coping strategies and subjectively perceived challenges of parents of diabetic children. The second aim was to compare observed variables with a group of parents of healthy children. The final goal was to locate the specific stress factors, as well as protective factors associated with care for diabetic children. The research sample consists of 57 parents of diabetic children and 57 parents of healthy children. The following methods were used to measure the variables: scale SWLS, BDI-II, SVF 78 and semantic differential (designed by authors of study) for the measurement of subjective perception of the challenges of diabetes. The test battery for the parents of diabetic children also included open-ended questions about for example what supported the parents most at a time when the child was diagnosed with diabetes, what gave them hope at that time, what are the biggest challenges in connection with the care of a sick child, what helps the parents during the most difficult moments associated with diabetes and what would help to make the care for their diabetic child easier. The data was processed in the SPSS program and the results are presented in the Discussion section.
