Díky množství jedinečných znaků ušní boltec poskytuje množství informací, na základě kterých může být využitý ve forenzní praxi jako identifikační parametr. Rozmach 3D záznamových a vizualizačních technologií způsobil, že 3D modely postupně nahrazují 2D záznamy.
