Film adaptations based on the Sienkiewicz's historical novel Quo vadis

Abstract:

This thesis is divided into several thematic tasks. The first part is showing Henryk Sienkiewicz?s biography ? the Polish writer, author of Quo vadis. Following part deals with historical novel Quo vadis. Next is devoted to the American adaptation of Quo vadis which was directed by Mervyn LeRoy and the differences from the book are described here. Then the chapter about Italian adaptation of Quo vadis directed by Franco Rossi presented and the differences from the book. In the last chapter are show differences between book and film directed by Jerzy Kawalerowicz. The main aim of this thesis are to introduce the author of Quo vadis and to show the differences between the book and film adaptations from years 1951, 1985 and 2001.

Abstract:

Předložená diplomová práce je rozčleněna do několika tématických oddílů. V prvním je popsán život Henryka Sienkiewicze, polského spisovatele, autora Quo vadis. Následující se zabývá historickým románem Quo vadis. Další oddíl je věnován americké filmové adaptaci Quo vadis, kterou režíroval Mervyn LeRoy a popisuje, čím se liší od knihy. Dále následuje oddíl o italské adaptaci režírované Francem Rossim a rovněž popisuje, čím se liší od knihy. V posledním oddílu jsou popsány rozdíly mezi knihou a filmem režírovaným Jerzym Kawalerowiczem. Hlavním cílem této diplomové práce je představit autora románu Quo vadis a uvést rozdíly mezi knihou a jejími filmovými adaptacemi z let 1951, 1985 a 2001.
